Youth Changing Communities

It is not often that youth from diverse backgrounds, living in different communities get the opportunity to work together. It is even less often that these young people have the chance to contribute to one of the most purposeful jobs in society: growing and distributing high quality food.

"There are some things that make The Food Project different from other programs. Many programs give kids something to do during the summer that keeps them busy and off the streets, but they don't teach them leadership, investment in their community and community service."  --Najwa Abdul-Tawwab, head of the board of the Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative.

At The Food Project, agriculture, enterprise and service combine to create a rigorous, practical and integrated experience. Through all of our youth programs, people of all ages bridge communities through farming and food and discover their interdependence with each other as well as with those who purchase and receive their produce.

Youth and adults learn that work on the land can be a powerful equalizer, teacher and catalyst for personal, local and global change.
