Summer CSA Beverly Farm Share

2012 Application

To apply for this year's CSA, please download the application (.pdf) and mail it to us with your initial payment.

Every week from June to the end of October, Summer CSA shareholders are invited to our farm at Long Hill in Beverly to receive a wide variety of fresh, local, sustainably grown vegetables. Shareholders will receive 8-24 pounds of produce each week. The poundage increases as the summer harvest gets into full swing. At various times throughout the season, there will also be certain U-Pick vegetables and herbs available for shareholders to harvest.

How many people does a share feed?
A share is designed to feed 2-3 vegetarian adults or a family of four with mixed diets.

Can I split a share?
The Food Project only sells full shares. If you would like to split a share with a friend, you might consider picking up on alternating weeks, as members in the past have found splitting watermelons, winter squash, salad mix, etc. time consuming and less than ideal. If you do chose to split a share each week, you may arrange to do so, but we would appreciate it if only one family pick-ups the produce at the farm at a time. We have limited parking and cannot accommodate cars for all half shares.

When does the CSA begin?
Distribution begins in mid June and continues through the end of October.

Where is the pick-up site?
Shares are available for pickup at our farm in Beverly. For directions, click here.

What do I do if I am on vacation?
Share your share! CSA members can have a guest pick up their food. If no one picks up your share, the produce will be donated to a local Food Pantry.

What do I get each week?
We offer a variety of crops throughout the growing season. Most items such as potatoes, squash, salad greens and tomatoes will be available for several weeks, while other crops might only be harvested for one or two weeks. Each week you will also receive a newsletter, which includes farm news and food preparation tips.

Is the produce organic?
The Food Project uses 100% organic methods to grow its food; however, our land has not been certified as organic. A big reason is that we are in constant communication both by word of mouth and in newsletters about what we are doing on the land. The foundation of a CSA model is a relationship of trust between the growers and the consumers -- knowing your land and your farmer is much more reliable than having a label on your vegetables.

Can CSA members harvest?
There are certain areas on the farm where on CSA members can harvest their own vegetables and herbs. We also welcome volunteers in the spring and fall on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings.

Are there any other benefits to being a member of The Food Project's CSA?
As a member of our CSA you will not only enjoy five months of fresh, local produce, but you will also be part of The Food Project community. You will receive The Food Project's newsletter, and invitations to other Food Project events. You will be able to volunteer on the land in the fall and spring.
