Emely Y. Cabrera Soto, was born and raised in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and immigrated to Providence, Rhode Island at the age of 10. Emely identifies as an Afro-Latinx individual with roots in Africa, Europe, and D.R. She recently graduated with a degree in Sociology and Anthropology from Guilford College where she was strongly motivated by community and food justice. In the future, Emely hopes to become an elementary special needs educator, which is what brought her to FoodCorps. She is excited to be able to combine her passions for teaching along with food and social justice. Emely hopes to give students a different perspective on veggies that they aren't used to eating and to introduce them to different cooking techniques.
