The Food Project: Youth. Food. Community.

FoodCorps is a nationwide team of AmeriCorps leaders who connect kids to healthy, good food and help them grow up healthy. It recruits, trains, and places service members with local organizations and schools that aim to improve childhood health by teaching hands-on food education, growing and cooking food from school gardens, and working to bring high-quality local food to school cafeterias.

The Food Project acts as the Massachusetts host site for FoodCorps service members. In this role, The Food Project oversees FoodCorps programs across the state and helps to recruit, select, and evaluate service members and programs. The Food Project has partnered with eight community organizations and schools to create a total of ten service sites across Massachusetts.

Currently, The Food Project’s FoodCorps service members lead elementary student garden lessons in Boston and lead afterschool programs in Lynn, support the creation of school and community gardens, and help engage high-school aged youth in The Food Project’s Root Crew in food systems education. In addition, The Food Project hosts the Massachusetts FoodCorps Fellow, who helps to administer the state-level programming, support and mentor service members across Massachusetts, and build state-level farm to school collaborations.
