The Eos Foundation supports The Food Project's work with youth and sustainable agriculture

The Food Project was chosen for the 15th consecutive year by the trustees of the Eos Foundation to receive a $100,000 grant. With this support, The Food Project will continue our powerful youth development programs, sustainably manage seven farms throughout the region, and engage with community members to increase food access and food security through our harvests, educational offerings, and resource development in our communities.

The Food Project receives Cummings Foundation grant

The Food Project has been selected as one of 100 local nonprofits to receive grants of $100,000 each through Cummings Foundation’s “100K for 100” program. The Lincoln-based organization was chosen from more than 350 applicants during a very competitive review process. This award, over three years, will help The Food Project provide meaningful summer jobs for at least 240 young people that increase leadership, communication, and workplace skills. With these young people, The Food Project will grow and harvest more than 750,000 pounds of food, and provide 450,000 servings of fresh produce to underserved residents.

John Wang named North Shore Regional Director at The Food Project

The Food Project is pleased to announce the appointment of John Wang to the position of North Shore Regional Director, effective June 8.  


Wang is a graduate of the International Health Policy and Management program at the Heller School at Brandeis University and joined The Food Project in May 2005. His experience in youth advocacy spans work in education, literacy, HIV-AIDS prevention, and community service promotion. Most recently, Wang served as the North Shore Programs and Community Outreach Manager.

“I am grateful to John for the amazing work he has done over the years, especially on the North Shore. With his experience, deep relationships in Lynn and in the region, his great care and commitment to our community of youth and adults, and his passion for The Food Project, our North Shore region is in good hands for years to come,” says James Harrison, executive director.

In my first season at The Food Project in 2005, my job was to turn forty 12-foot-high piles of soil in Lynn into a farm.

The cold, early days of April were rough. High salt content in the soil made it tough for our early crops. Some second graders decided ripping up irrigation lines was a fun thing to do. A couple of high school students walking by yelled, "Hey man. What are you doing?" I yelled back, "Building a farm!" There was a long pause, laughter, and the response, "That won't work! You’re in the city." A growing sense of dread built in my chest. "What if this doesn't work?"

Jazz Under Glass - Celebrating Community

 


Jazz, fashion, and delicious food, all in a glorious garden setting, marked the third annual Jazz Under Glass at the Dudley Greenhouse on Sunday, June 7.

 

The event, hosted by The Dudley Greenhouse Advisory Committee, celebrates and supports community-based programming at the Greenhouse. Emcee Fulani Haynes welcomed guests who enjoyed lively music by The Fred Woodard Collaborative, delicious food from local chefs and gardeners, greenhouse tours, family activities, and fashions by The House of Nahdra.

Cyclists and volunteers raise funds to combat hunger
